My friend and fellow artist Jenny Henley contacted me a few weeks ago to do a last minute commission for her parents' 50th wedding anniversary, which is the "golden" anniversary. After searching through my materials, I found the perfect supplies and was able to create a piece of artwork that they loved!
Here are some pictures of the piece, an assemblage contained in a glass bell jar using found wood, moss, quartz crystal, an antique bottle and Chrysina resplendens (formerly Plusiotis resplendens), a golden scarab beetle found in Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador and other countries in Central America. The bottle reads "Nectar of the Golden Life or Health and Vitality". I'm really glad they liked it!

Dolf gave me my very first welding lesson today at CoRK, turns out bright yellow skimmers are not the best shoes to wear and fire shoots in your face the whole time. I have a new found respect for my studio mate and experienced welder, Olivia Carr. Next time I get to use a plasma torch!
I have been invited to show with two great guys and fellow artists Thony Aiuppy and Eric Gillyard at FSCJ Kent Campus Gallery from October 30th through November 20th. Our opening reception for "Mediums" is from 6 - 9 pm on the 30th, we've been working hard on the show so please come and check it out! I will post pics of the show and student talk once I have them :)
In celebration of The Cummer’s 50th Anniversary, the Up & Cummers have commissioned 50 local artists under the age of 50 to collaboratively reinterpret one of the museum’s “50 Favorite” works of art, Severin Roesen’s Still Life with Flowers, Fruit and Bird’s Nest.
The finished product is an inspiring work of art that represents one of The Cummer’s most prized paintings and captures the talent that exists in Jacksonville’s artist community.
On November 5, the piece will be auctioned at The Cummer’s 50th Anniversary Ball, with the proceeds supporting an art stop at the 2012 VSA (Very Special Arts) Festival. In 2011, 2,300 children with disabilities were able to experience hands-on art projects at The Cummer through VSA.

I have been asked to participate as a guest artist in a show featuring two other local talents, Eric Gillyard and Yvonne Lozano, at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts from September 20th - October 12th. I am very flattered to be included in this show, as I admire the school's dedication to cultivating the arts in younger generations and am honored to play a part in that mission. It was a great experience and I had a lot of fun speaking to the students about my process and their inspirations for their own work.
Finally uploaded pics from the opening of the show, will post detail shots of the pieces after the closing event tomorrow night, Dark Nature: Eric Gillyard & Crystal Floyd Closing Reception & Vegan Dinner by Dig Foods. Be sure to check it out if you missed it the first time around and make reservations with Dig Foods if you plan on eating the delicious meal we have planned :)
There will be a closing reception for the show Dark Nature:Eric Gillyard & Crystal Floyd next Wednesday, June 27th at CoRK Arts District. Dig Foods will be preparing a vegan dinner that will begin at 7:00 pm by reservation only, the cost is $25. The gallery will then open to the public from 8:00 to 10:00 pm. If you missed the show earlier this month, this will be your second chance to see it (including an encore presentation of a video/music collaboration between myself, Eric and the awesome David Montgomery) and eat some delicious local food!
Clay Doran and I used to print t-shirts, bags and pillows under the name Rummage Vintage and Handmade, which I still use for my vintage boutique on Etsy and at Southern Crossing Antique Mall in Riverside. We have hopes to reprint the Silica Gel Packet pillows in the next few months, I will post when they become available :)
I have always been a big supporter of Art Unleashed Art Auctions to Benefit First Coast No More Homeless Pets. They do a lot towards improving animal welfare in Jacksonville and need all the help they can get!
Art Unleashed is Jacksonville's most fabulous juried art show and silent auction. A night of fun featuring fine art by local and regional artists, a unique silent auction, fabulous food, cocktails, and live music! ART Unleashed has been an amazing event in which over $120,000 was raised for needy pets in years past!
This is a gallery of photo transfer prints I created, they are available at Draper Studio Store or by contacting me directly. Some of them are slightly subversive, all of them look great grouped on any wall :)
MOCA Jacksonville presents Imagination Squared opening September 1st during Artwalk. Artists Christina Foard and Dolf James initiated Imagination Squared: The Creative Response Experiment in order to showcase the importance of arts in education (and life) by giving a stage to the collective creative momentum happening in Jacksonville. Over that last few months they have built hundreds of gessoed boxes with the idea of trying to get one into the hands of every artist in the Jacksonville area and then creating a huge grid to hang in a public location. The result is a snapshot of Jacksonville’s imagination. MOCA Jacksonville is proud to host such an amazing response of over 900 local artists who have all contributed to this community art work.
Join us for the unveiling of this piece, meet the artists, and support your local art community!
My buddy Clay Doran and I have been lucky enough to gain the use of the basement of the old Haydon Burns Library to put on shows during Artwalk and I must say, we are super stoked! The first show of the series is the annual Monster Art Show that Clay has curated in the past. Here are some pics of the piece that I did for it, as well as a link to a gallery of Pics from the Monster Show during Artwalk in the Old Library Basement
