50th Golden Wedding Anniversary Commission

My friend and fellow artist Jenny Henley contacted me a few weeks ago to do a last minute commission for her parents' 50th wedding anniversary, which is the "golden" anniversary.  After searching through my materials, I found the perfect supplies and was able to create a piece of artwork that they loved!  

Here are some pictures of the piece, an assemblage contained in a glass bell jar using found wood, moss, quartz crystal, an antique bottle and Chrysina resplendens (formerly Plusiotis resplendens), a golden scarab beetle found in Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador and other countries in Central America.  The bottle reads "Nectar of the Golden Life or Health and Vitality".  I'm really glad they liked it!

"Mediums" Show at FSCJ Kent Campus Gallery: Crystal Floyd, Eric Gillyard & Thony Aiuppy

I have been invited to show with two great guys and fellow artists Thony Aiuppy and Eric Gillyard at FSCJ Kent Campus Gallery from October 30th through November 20th.  Our opening reception for "Mediums" is from 6 - 9 pm on the 30th, we've been working hard on the show so please come and check it out!  I will post pics of the show and student talk once I have them :)

What is Art? at the Cummer - 50th Anniversary Celebration

In celebration of The Cummer’s 50th Anniversary, the Up & Cummers have commissioned 50 local artists under the age of 50 to collaboratively reinterpret one of the museum’s “50 Favorite” works of art, Severin Roesen’s Still Life with Flowers, Fruit and Bird’s Nest.

The finished product is an inspiring work of art that represents one of The Cummer’s most prized paintings and captures the talent that exists in Jacksonville’s artist community.

On November 5, the piece will be auctioned at The Cummer’s 50th Anniversary Ball, with the proceeds supporting an art stop at the 2012 VSA (Very Special Arts) Festival. In 2011, 2,300 children with disabilities were able to experience hands-on art projects at The Cummer through VSA.

Guest Artist Show at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts

I have been asked to participate as a guest artist in a show featuring two other local talents, Eric Gillyard and Yvonne Lozano, at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts from September 20th - October 12th.  I am very flattered to be included in this show, as I admire the school's dedication to cultivating the arts in younger generations and am honored to play a part in that mission.   It was a great experience and I had a lot of fun speaking to the students about my process and their inspirations for their own work.
